Overview
A separated shoulder is a stretch or tear of one or more of the ligaments supporting the joint where the top of the shoulder blade meets the end of the collarbone.
Causes
A blow to the shoulder or a fall directly on the shoulder
Symptoms
Shoulder pain, especially when moving your arm across your body
Shoulder or arm weakness
Bruising or swelling
Limited shoulder movement
A bump at the top of the shoulder
Diagnosis
Physical exam and medical history consultation
X-ray
MRI
Treatment
Rest
Application of ice
Anti-inflammatory and pain medication
Physical therapy
